I'm getting a new roof. Is "ice and water shield protection" two rows up from eaves adequate? Or do I want much more?

The Ice/drinking water shield is a Need to. That is what everyone tells me. Is it ample for it to be 2 rows up from the eves? Or must there be more than this?
Thanks!
Possibly I should add that I am utilizing a large high quality, forty calendar year, architectural design shingle. Its a lower rise roof on a very outdated
